The OJC Meets Mark Lewis

The Oncology Podcast, brought to you by oncologynews.com.au, is proud to present the latest episode in our ‘The OJC Meets…’ series in which Professor Eva Segelov chats with Dr Mark Lewis, oncologist and Director of Gastrointestinal Oncology at Intermountain Healthcare, Salt Lake City, USA.

Mark is a medical oncologist, physician-patient and avid Twitter user, who has multiple neuroendocrine neoplasia type 1. He underwent a Whipple surgical procedure for his pancreatic neuroendocrine tumour in 2017, which he live tweeted.

He shares insights into practicing as an oncologist whilst also being a patient and chats about the challenges of navigating a genetic tumour syndrome which has affected him, his father and his son.

The day it stops being emotional is the day I want to stop doing it because if I become insensate to the human side of this, then I just become a kind of chemo-dispensing robot and that’s exactly what I don’t want to be…

It’s an honest, insightful and uplifting episode so we hope you enjoy. Please tweet feedback and comments to us (@OncologyNewsAus), Eva (@profevasegelov) and Mark (@marklewisMD).
