The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) is well positioned to deliver a seamless transition to the new requirements of continuing professional development (CPD) announced by the Medical Board of Australia (MBA) and Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ).
Starting from 2022, CPD activities will be measured in hours per calendar year as the points system, and triennium cycle phase out. Key requirements for members include:
- Must complete 50 CPD hours each year
- Must complete a professional development plan each year
- Record CPD activities in one of three broad categories: measuring and improving outcomes, educational activities, reviewing performance and reflecting on practice
- Members in New Zealand must complete a structured annual conversation and undertake activities that embed cultural safety and health equity as per the requirements by MCNZ
- Australian based clinical radiologists participating in the MRI and mammography programs must undertake CPD hours: 8 hours for MRI and 4 hours for mammography
“We believe these changes will bring opportunities for our members to gain more value out of their life-long learning as they continue to deliver the best patient outcomes,” said RANZCR President, Dr Lance Lawler.
“2022 will be a transition year for our members. RANZCR will provide full support to assist members as they learn about how the requirements will affect their professional development plans during this transition,” said RANZCR CEO, Duane Findley.
RANZCR’s enhanced CPD program provides members with learning opportunities to build on their current knowledge, skill, and practice not only in clinical radiology and radiation oncology, but also in more generic areas associated with the practice of medicine.
In order to deliver better member experience, RANZCR will soon launch Kaizen, a new e-portfolio platform, designed for members to easily download certificates, record CPD hours, provide feedback and complete reflective practice activities. The Kaizen platform will replace the current CPD Learning Portal in January 2022.
RANZCR offers a webcast library where members can access to hundreds of quality educational content at any time that suits them. These webinars have attracted hundreds of participants and many more afterwards to view the recordings in their own leisure.
RANZCR is proud to release new CPD Handbooks that detail the program changes and requirements for both professions. These handbooks include useful information to inform and support all clinicians to get the most out of their professional development.
In July 2021, the Medical Board of Australia and Medical Council of New Zealand announced changes to the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) registration standards in Australia and New Zealand. The key changes include the introduction of CPD Homes and professional development plans (PDPs) for all doctors, requiring doctors to do different types of CPD to improve the value of their professional development.
