A new podcast exploring the role of theranostics in neuroendocrine tumours – in celebration of World NET Cancer Day
Rachael Babin chats to Simone Leydon and Aviral Singh about the future of theranostics in Australia.
In today’s podcast we’re chatting about the recently held Theranostics Roundtable virtual meeting and exploring the future role of theranostics for the management of NETs.
Today is World NET Cancer Day – a global initiative to draw attention to under-diagnosed neuroendocrine cancer. As Simone mentions in the podcast, NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia has today launched a National Action Plan. The plan has been developed in collaboration with key stakeholders, patients, the consumer advisory group, Centres of Excellence and leading Healthcare Specialists right across Australia to develop a clear strategy that will be presented to the government for better neuroendocrine cancer education, treatment and support.

Dr Aviral Singh who is a Specialist Nuclear Medicine Physician from Germany and Clinical Research and Development Manager for GenesisCare. He practices Theranostics for the management of Neuroendocrine Neoplasms and Prostate Cancer.

Simone Leyden
Simone Leyden co-founded NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia in 2009 after seeing a huge disparity in treatment and support for less common cancers, compared to more common cancers throughout her sister Kate’s neuroendocrine cancer journey.
In her role as CEO Simone advocates for greater access to treatments and diagnostics, raises funds for the NET Nurse Support Service and research, and raises awareness about NET cancers within the medical community and general public. Simone is an active member of many associations including immediate past President, board member and current Research Committee Chair of the International Neuroendocrine Cancer Alliance (INCA). Simone is passionate about driving research in NETs and is an Associate Investigator on a number of Neuroendocrine cancer studies, and has been the lead author and co-authored peer reviewed publications in journals including the International Journal of Cancer.

Dr Aviral Singh
Dr Aviral Singh is a Specialist Physician in Nuclear Medicine currently working as Clinical Research and Development Manager – Theranostics at GenesisCare Australia. He has relocated from Germany, where he was working as a Consultant Physician in Nuclear Medicine & Theranostics and Clinical Research Physician at the world-renowned ENETS Center of Excellence, Zentralklinik Bad Berka.
Following graduation in medicine from Ukraine, he acquired clinical training in nuclear medicine, intensive care and internal medicine from Germany, Australia and United Kingdom in English, German and Russian languages.
Aviral gained the degree of M.Sc. in Nuclear Medicine from King’s College London, University of London, UK in 2015, and is pursuing PhD from Maastricht University, Netherlands.
He has extensive clinical and research experience in Theranostics for the management of Neuroendocrine Neoplasms and Prostate Cancer.
