Campbelltown – NSW – A new $52 million integrated cancer treatment centre at Campbelltown in south-western Sydney has moved a step closer to opening its doors with delivery of advanced radiation therapy technology.

Members of Campbelltown Council, GenesisCare and its consumer advocacy groups, and construction team members visited the site today to witness the arrival of the vital, multi-million dollar equipment that was transported into the GenesisCare facility as part of the clinical fit-out phase.

GenesisCare’s NSW General Manager, Michael Davis, said: “The arrival of this technology today marks a major milestone in the delivery of our new centre. Campbelltown is one of Australia’s fastest growing cities and a key priority for the new Campbelltown centre has been future-proofing services and care to accommodate the growing population not only in Campbelltown but the wider region.”

GenesisCare recognises that one of the best ways to help enhance quality-of-care is to partner with people who have experienced cancer first-hand, including through its Consumer Representative Panel. Panel member, Lee McKerracher, a local to the Campbelltown area, toured the facility today to share her feedback on the centre’s design.

“I was delighted to hear that a new cancer treatment centre was under construction in Campbelltown to give future patients greater choice close to home,” said Ms McKerracher.

“In developing this new centre, I applaud GenesisCare for inviting feedback from people who have previously experienced cancer. It shows vulnerability, but ultimately helps to discover insights that can make such a difference in how a patient interacts with a facility and its team which, in turn, elevates the level of care.”

The centre, expected to open in March 2024, plans to offer patients access to advanced integrated cancer services including radiation oncology, medical oncology, immunotherapy, haematology, allied health care support including a Wellness Pavilion, and access to clinical trials for appropriate patients. Other on-site service providers will also offer pathology and imaging under the same roof to simplify the patient experience.

The precinct is the result of a partnership between Campbelltown City Council, Australia’s largest private integrated cancer care provider GenesisCare, construction company Erilyan, and owner of the site –
NorthWest Healthcare Properties – Australia’s largest owner and manager of healthcare property. This development is the first stage of an innovative healthcare precinct in Campbelltown.

The environment and sustainability are key focuses for the precinct, which aims to achieve a 6-Star-Green-Star Rating once completed and assessed.

The precinct is surrounded by green open spaces such as Koshigaya Park and is conveniently located close to Narellan Road and the M5, creating ease of access for patients travelling to and from the centre from across the region.
