The Board of Directors of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) has approved ten goals to enhance diversity and inclusion.

The goals were agreed following a report delivered by RANZCR’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Taskforce on creating a more inclusive college.

The college’s goals include promoting a diverse membership on RANZCR committees and councils; training in unconscious bias for anyone who holds a leadership position; and adapting college terminology to use inclusive language.

The college will audit its progress each year and report back to fellows and staff.

RANZCR President Clin A/Professor Sanjay Jeganathan said: ““The ten goals we have agreed will serve as a catalyst for enhancing diversity within RANZCR and contributing to a more inclusive environment.

“Diversity among professional organisations has been shown to improve creativity, innovation, and job satisfaction – in medicine, it has been linked to a positive impact on patient care.

“I’m very grateful to Professor Liz Kenny AO and other taskforce members for producing this report and helping the college endorse the ten transformational goals.”

The taskforce’s report – Radiating Change – noted that while the college has made positive steps towards a more equitable workforce, more can be done.

Clin A/Professor Jeganathan added: “I am pleased at the strides we have made to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion over the last few years.

“We know there is a lot more work to do on our committees, councils, and on the board.

“Our ten goals are pivotal to attaining diversity, equity and inclusion and signals our commitment to change.”
