Thousands of volunteers and Make-a-Wish Foundation helped Miles, 5, recovering from leukaemia, be a hero for a day in San Francisco.

In a spectacularly coordinated effort, thousands of volunteers, San Francisco’s police department and the Mayor helped stage an elaborate rescue mission, which began when police chief Greg Suhra called for Batkid’s assistance against criminals. Footage of Miles’ special day has gone viral, aided by President Obama’s “Way to go!” video message.
