The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) strongly supports Australian patients having access to healthcare services funded by Medicare.
Clinical radiologists and radiation oncologists are critical to health services, working as part of a team with other health professionals to deliver the best possible health services to Australian patients. The high standards of the vast majority of RANZCR members do not in any way reflect the reports in the media.
RANZCR focuses on the professional development of its members through educating and supporting clinical radiologists and radiation oncologists. RANZCR has been proactively providing its members with up-to-date information on the appropriate billing of Medicare.
RANZCR is supportive of the government’s aim to ensure the appropriate use of Medicare funding and, if concerns arise, to fully investigate any potential Medicare billing issues.
Clin A/Prof Sanjay Jeganathan, RANZCR President, said: “Representing clinical radiologists and radiation oncologists, RANZCR supports and advocates for the appropriate use of Medicare funding. We acknowledge the complexity of Medicare billing and support measures to remedy incorrect billing behaviour.”
“The discussion should focus on ensuring that patients receive the health care they need, and that Medicare funding keeps pace with modern medical practices.”
