Statement from President and CEO of RANZCR on Marriage Equality

The President and Chief Executive Officer of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists confirm their support for marriage equality.

Dr Greg Slater, and Ms Natalia Vukolova, CEO, affirmed their commitment to equality and equal opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or intersex (LGBTI) Australians and their families.

‘We recognise that there will be a diversity of opinion on this issue within our membership and respect the right of individuals to exercise theirs through the postal vote survey’.

Dr Slater, President, said: ‘There is clear evidence demonstrating the serious mental and physical health impacts on LGBTI people as a result of discrimination. Marriage equality is a broader social issue, which nonetheless has significant implications for health. We affirm our commitment to marriage equality for all’.

Ms Vukolova, CEO, said: ‘We would like to express our support for our patients and Fellows of our College who identify as LGBTI. We urge the Australian Parliament to follow the lead of our New Zealand peers and ensure marriage equality and equal opportunity for all.’
